Endodontics is the specific study of the dental pulp and tissues surrounding the root of a tooth. Endodontic treatment is needed when the pulp becomes inflamed or infected. An endodontist is a specialized dentist that carefully cleans the canal space and seals it. Our office offers a variety of services that save heavily decayed, injured, or otherwise “unhappy” teeth. The following is a list of our most frequently provided services:
Commonly known as a “root canal therapy”, an endodontic treatment is performed when the pulp is infected or inflamed. The infected or inflamed tissue is carefully cleaned and filled with a bio-compatible material.
Although rare, a tooth treated with an endodontic treatment may develop new problems. Luckily, you have another chance to save the tooth with a second endodontic procedure, called an endodontic retreatment. Further information.
Endodontic Surgery (Root-End Surgery)
Endodontic Surgery, or apicoectomy, is a procedure in which the infection is primarily at the root tips of the tooth. This infected area is removed, cleaned, and sealed. Further information.
Treatment of Dental Trauma and Cracked Tooth
Due to dental trauma, your teeth may develop macro or micro fractures. Symptoms from this fracture include pain when chewing, temperature sensitivity, percussion sensitivity, or a combination of the above. These fractures will eventually cause irritation to the tooth’s pulp, and over time the pulp will become damaged. Cracks can also lead to infections of the pulp tissue and this infection can spread to the surrounding gums and bone. Most cracked teeth, however, can be saved by a root canal procedure.
Treatment of Cervical Root Resorption
Cervical root resorption describes the loss of root structure of a tooth caused by inflammatory process and can occur internally or externally. This loss of tooth structure can reach the pulp, at which point, an endodontic treatment may be indicated to save the tooth from extraction. Further information.
Autogenous Tooth Transplantation
This is the surgical displacement of a tooth from one location in the mouth to another within the same individual, and serves as another option for tooth replacement.
Regenerative Endodontic Treatment
Regenerative Endodontic Treatment uses tissue engineering to restore root canals in immature teeth to a healthy state. During this procedure, we will treat the necrotic portion of the tooth and promote continued root development, increased dentinal wall thickness, and apical closure.
